Positive Energy Solar Comes to EDo

PESSanta Fe-based Positive Energy Solar will be opening an Albuquerque office June 1st in EDo, at 100 Arno NE, Suite A, adjacent to State Farm Insurance.

A full-service renewable energy company founded in 1997, their business has doubled in the past 3 years, and they saw the need to have a greater presence in Albuquerque. They located in EDo because of our proximity to the Rail Runner.
PES customers run the range from large commercial applications to smaller residential ones. According to Tim McGivern, who will be their Albuquerque sales and service representative, solar applications are in increasing demand because of higher energy costs, lower solar module costs, and a 40 percent Federal and State tax credit available for qualifying applications.
Their office on Arno will be powered by solar modules in the form of door and window awnings, and they are in preliminary discussions about a rooftop installation to power the common area of one of EDo’s condominium buildings. Pat Keene to Head EDo Neighborhood Association

Pat_KeeneWe are pleased to announce that Pat Keene will serve as Executive Director of the ENA, working with its 10-member Board of Directors to continue the work of implementing the EDo Master Plan.

Along with her husband Terry, she is an owner of Artichoke Cafe, a neighborhood fixture since 1989, and Pizzeria Farina, which opened last year and quickly became a neighborhood favorite.
The Keenes have lived in Albuquerque since 1975, and their two sons, Evan and Gavin, were born and grew up here. Her list of community involvement and achievement is too lengthy to enumerate. All of us living and working in EDo are lucky to have a person of her good reputation and deep experience advocating for us.
Tops on her list in getting started is a spot on the advocacy/advisory committee for the proposed new Events Center plus Convention Center Hotel. The Events Center is proposed to be built on the First Baptist Church site in EDo. We look forward to sharing her reports with you in the future.

Hotel Parq Central a Reality

HotelPargCentral PC 4x6 5-09This coming Wednesday, May 27th at 10 a.m., on the site of the former Memorial Hospital at Central & I-25, there will be a kick-off event for the coming Hotel Parq Central.  It is open to the public.

Construction is expected to start in June on this 74-room, limited-service boutique hotel, with a rooftop bar overlooking EDo and Highland Park. Project cost is over $15 M, and funding is in place.
We caught up with Dave Oberstein, one of the Owners, and asked him a few questions.
ENV:  When will the hotel be open?
DO:  July 2010.
ENV:  What is the range of room rates?
DO:  They will average $135/night.
ENV:  What type of food and beverage service will you have?
DO:  Gourmet continental for guests.  Food service concept for rooftop bar is still in the works.
ENV:  Will there be pool?  Exercise facilities?  Group meeting space?
DO:  Two hot tubs, exercise room for guests and two meeting rooms.

Grocery Store Coming to EDo?

GroceryThere is no more frequent question we hear.

A neighbor put it this way – “it takes a neighborhood grocery to create a real neighborhood.”  We agree.
If those of us living and working in EDo want a neighborhood grocery, we are going to have to do one for ourselves. Almost 6 years after the EDo Master Plan was created in a 5-day charrette, no outside or local companies have stepped up to do this.
For the past month, a group of EDo residents have been working diligently to write a business and financial plan for The Daily Market, to be located in the vacant space at 401 Central NE, between Chez D’Or Salon and EDo Spaces.
The 1,950-square-foot store would be a full-service grocery with prepared foods and deli items, plus a coffee and wine bar. The marketing tag line proposed for the store is “Fresh · Affordable · Friendly.” Our goal is to be as local and organic as possible, and yet attract a broad range of customers from all over town.
The initial goals of the business plan are to:
1.  Attract a solid management team to run the store.
2.  Attract $50,000 in cash equity from 10 neighborhood residents or businesses, as a “down payment” on the $250,000 needed to open.
After these two goals are met, we will work diligently to secure the remaining $200,000 of funding and build the store.
